About Your Cigar Box Guitar...

Your CBG has been constructed for durability, so as much as I hope you admire it on display, please enjoy playing your art while sharing the joy of music with others. Because CBGs are rustic instruments, latches, hinge pins and mating box surfaces can be a source of unintended rattles and buzzes. These can add unique character to the sounds of your guitar, but sometimes I will add silicone to the hinges and latches to minimize some of the more distracting sounds. I use felt and sometimes silicone on mating box opening surfaces to minimize vibration in those areas. The cigar box has not had any finish applied to it other than what the factory provided for its original cigar packaging, while the neck and headstock are finished with an acrylic lacquer.

If you have any questions or concerns, reach out at 256-886-8554 (text or call) or complete the form below to contact us, writing your question in the comments box.

Tara & I love to see the CBGs I build in their new habitat! Please share a photo or video with us on Facebook or on Instagram.

Warmly,

Jeff

Playing...

Tuned to Open G (G-D-G), your CBG is very easy to play even if you have zero experience. If you are brand new to guitar, we suggest you request our Beginner Resources to help you get started. This is also how to access all the song sheets we use in class. Just fill out the form below and check the “Beginner Resources” box before you hit submit. If you can join us in Huntsville, we invite you to our store every Saturday from Noon-2:00 for free group lessons. Just stop by anytime in that window—no sign up required—and stay for a few minutes or the entire time.

If you play a standard-tuned, six-string guitar, check out this chord chart for the three-string cigar box guitar and read this Fender article explaining more about Open G tuning and some of the most common genres and musicians that use it.
